CIS Desk – The “Face” of the League!

One of the main functions of the League of Women Voters of Seattle is to provide the community with a reliable source for accurate information and resource referrals within the scope of our work. This includes information about elections, city/county/state/national elected officials, local issues on which the League has taken a position based on its studies, and upcoming LWVS events. Our office regularly receives phone calls about everything from how to find out who one’s legislators are to how to join LWVS. Volunteering at the Citizen Information Service (CIS) desk is an excellent way to get to know the organization and get involved – as well as to provide a valuable service to the community. Having volunteers around to answer the phone and help out generally in the office is also a huge help to the staff and board members.

Regular weekly CIS shifts are available, and are typically three hours long – either in the mornings or the afternoons (the desk is staffed Monday-Friday, from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM, and functions on a reduced schedule during summer months). We also always need substitutes that can be called on when a regular volunteer can’t make it. This is a rewarding opportunity for new and old members alike – whether you would like to get better-acquainted with the League or put your experience to use!
