What do State Representatives do?

The U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives form the legislative branch of the federal government. Whereas Representatives represent smaller political divisions throughout the state, Senators represent the entire state. Exclusive powers granted to the House are the powers to put revenue bills in motion, to impeach officials, and to elect the President of the United States in the case of a tie vote in the electoral college. Representatives pass laws. An important part of their work is to approve the federal budget. Representatives serve for a two-year term.
