How can we create a better, more democratic society? What ideas will propel us forward? What issues prevent our moving ahead?

Nancy Amidei, Emeritus faculty at the University of Washington School of Social Work, directs the Civic Engagement Project, providing advocacy training to nonprofit organizations through the country. Nancy has influenced policy from inside and outside government since the 1980s.

Jerry Large is a columnist for the Seattle Times, where he writes about the connections between ordinary people and larger world issues. He has worked for newspapers in four states and has been with the Seattle Times in various roles for twenty-eight years.

Paul Loeb is the author of The Impossible Will Take A Little While and Soul of a Citizen, which will be published in a completely new, revised edition on March 30. For more than thirty-five years Paul has written about citizen empowerment: why some people choose to become engaged and others abstain.

Transportation and Parking: BUS: #12 and #2. Parking is available in the lot directly adjacent to Town Hall (for roughly $8), or in the main Convention Center lot two blocks north on 8th Ave. Vouchers are available (at the Town Hall information desk the night of the event) for Convention Center parking, reducing the price from $8 to $4.
