"Make Our Community Count" is the goal of the League of Women Voters monthly forum. The U.S. Census Bureau aims to count every individual living in the U.S. by April 1, 2010.
Census information is used to allocate more than $400 billion in federal funds for health care, education and other services; that translates to a per person allotment of $1,144.98, using 2007 figures. The census also determines how we are represented in local, state and national government.
Local partners and leaders are necessary in order to achieve a 100% response rate. Forum guest speaker Linh Ngo with the Community Leadership Foundation will show how they are reaching out to likely undercounted groups and how additional volunteers can join in to help make the 2010 count 100%.
All League Forums are free and open to the public. For more information call the League office at 206-329-4848.
