The Social Justice Committee has focused on issues ranging from homelessness and affordable housing, the impact of government revenue streams and policies on the provision of health and human services and how current governmental/ criminal justice policies have impacted decisions relating to the need to build a new city/county jail, to voting rights and marriage equity. The committee is currently working on a study to explore the impact of funding and government policies on mental health service delivery in Seattle and King County. more info

He will talk about the different approaches to teacher education across the country, in addition to what is happening at the UW. This is the second meeting on the topic of teacher quality, and everyone is welcome to attend who is interested in this issue. 02 / 4 February Forum: 2010 Census Start: 7:30 pm End: 9:00 pm Thursday, Feb. 4 7:30 to 9:00 PM Seattle First Baptist Church 1111 Harvard Ave. (Harvard & Seneca) Seattle, WA "Make Our Community Count" is the goal of the League of Women Voters monthly forum. The U.S. Census Bureau aims to count every individual living in the U.S. by April 1, 2010. Census information is used to allocate more than $400 billion in federal funds for health care, education and other services; that translates to a per person allotment of $1,144.98, using 2007 figures. The census also determines how we are represented in local, state and national government. Local partners and leaders are necessary in order to achieve a 100% response rate. Forum guest speaker Linh Ngo with the Community Leadership Foundation will show how they are reaching out to likely undercounted groups and how additional volunteers can join in to help make the 2010 count 100%.
